Introducing SME100 Membership

GS1 Singapore is proud to announce our new membership category, SME100.

The SME100 is catered for SMEs that require a small range of product barcode numbers. The product code is assigned to the product and brand that the company wishes to identify, capture, share key information for supply chain management and to support sales. This ensures that each individual barcode number is globally unique and local GS1 Singapore member companies are provided with the correct standards-based implementation support.

For more information on the SME100 membership, please visit our website.
iGEPIR:
Protecting your Product Data Integrity

Singapore’s smartphone penetration is at 91% of the total population, with an average ownership of 3.2 devices per person, one of the highest in Asia.

Further market research into consumer trends have also indicated that connected consumers are doing more pre-purchase research; and then making purchases through both online and in-stores platforms. According to Google, the eCommerce growth will increase by 5.4 times by 2025.

Product Data Integrity becomes a critical point in these tech-savvy times.

Why is it important?
Consumers use of eCommerce sites to research and purchase is so extensive and therefore as a brand owner, you have the responsibility to ensure that your products' information are displayed prominently and made easily searchable via all eCommerce channels.

Full access to the National Electronic Product Catalogue (NEPC)
The National Electronic Product Catalogue (NEPC) is a system available only to GS1 Singapore Members. It allows members to key in valuable and important product data, so that consumers can search for exactly what they want, when they want it.

Being a GS1 registered member gives you the passport to transact anywhere globally with unique numbers. All you have to do is ensure that your product data and information are accurate, and adhere strictly to current global standards.

How do you ensure your products can be searched globally via its barcode?
Simply enter and save your products' information accurately in the National Electronic Product Catalogue (NEPC) system, and it will automatically be searchable globally via the Global Electronic Party Information Registry (GEPIR).

GEPIR is a FREE service by GS1 that enables consumers to validate products via the products' barcode numbers. The GEPIR service is available for access on the
web and also available for download via  and .

The ever-changing supply chain industry has created an endless flow of new and developing technology. As technology transforms, your inventory and supply chain management needs to as well. Companies need to determine which processes are worth implementing into their supply chain. The newest process in the market that could potentially revolutionize the supply chain is blockchain.

Blockchain is popularly defined by Joe McKendrick as, “an online globally distributed general ledger that keeps track of transaction via online ‘smart contracts.’” So, how does it work?

    GS1 Singapore Service: Barcode Verification

When a barcode symbol fails to scan, it leads to a scanning failure. It is crucial to solve any scanning failure at the early stage of the printing process, before a product is being launched into the market. Verification is an important quality control tool as it helps to ensure accuracy of the number and the physical attributes of the barcode symbol.

Efficient rail yard processes with GS1 EPC/RFID.
Simplified, faster and more accurate management of rail transport in Finland

Finland’s unique geography, its extremely northern location and its long, dark, cold winters can make it difficult to have efficient logistics that enable Finnish companies to successfully compete in global markets.

VR Transpoint, Finland’s leading transport and logistic service company, has long been meeting that challenge. It operates in several European countries including Russia, and offers rail, groupage, bulk goods and international transport and logistics services.

A substantial portion of VR Transpoint’s rail activity is devoted to shunting, the task of moving wagons from place to place in the yard as they are loaded and unloaded with goods. Until recently, the work was manual: yard workers with pens, paper and walkie-talkies walked through loading and unloading stations, radioing information about the contents and condition of each wagon they verified. An office worker on the other end of the radio would manually enter the data into an ERP system.

For a long time, product, service, and business information was only available to the sellers. This gave the seller the upper hand in their interactions with buyers.

Today, the connected customer is in the driver’s seat and plays a pivotal role in shaping business strategy. Customers expect consistent and high-value in-person and digital experiences. They don’t care if building these experiences is hard or requires a complex, multifunction approach from across the business. They want immediate value and will go elsewhere if the business can’t provide it.

On the other hand, businesses are struggling to meet the demands of today's connected customers. From marketing, to transacting, to fulfillment until the product(s) are finally delivered to the customer.

However, many businesses are unaware that there they may have access to critical data. Data that they can leverage to better target and serve their customers especially in the digital approach and manage their supply chain process in a smarter manner.

This forum aims to share knowledge delivered by experts on understanding the market and business dynamics in the today's connected world.
