The EPCglobal system is an unique system which combines RFID technology
with the Internet technology. In this way, it succeeded in reducing
the size of the RFID tag to encode only the product identification
number plus its serial number and store all other product attributes
on servers accessible from the internet. Therefore, it is able to
achieve a very low cost RFID tag. The EPCglobal system is suitable for
multi-industries including consumer goods, logistics, pharmaceuticals,
electronic components, motorcar, aerospace and defence industries.
Currently, companies are investigating, trialling and developing RFID solutions based on the EPCglobal standards. Pilot studies are underway and many are moving to full-scale implementation in specific business areas.
