Seminar on Global Data Synchronisation Network (GDSN)

GDSN WorkShop - 25 Oct 2012

25 October 2012 – GDSN is the GS1 Global Data Synchronisation Network, which builds around the Global Registry, GDSN-Certified data pools, GS1 Data Quality Framework and GS1 Global Product Classification (GPC) to provide a powerful environment for secure and continuous synchronisation of accurate data.

At this seminar, we invited Mr Alan Hyler, Director, Program Management, GDSN and Mr Sean Lockhead, Director, GDSN & GEPIR from GS1 Global Office who shared with us concept of GDSN and successful case studies around the world. This seminar was well attended by 19 companies comprises of retailers, manufacturers, ICT providers, healthcare authorities (SingHealth and HSA) and IDA.

Some of the areas where GDSN can help improve efficiency and productivity for organisations:

- Customs using product information to gain visibility of products moving across border to facilitate risk assessment processes.

- Healthcare authority to be able to access to suppliers’ medical products and devices information to enable them to manage data more efficiently.

- Retailers currently using traditional methods of collecting product data from suppliers involved a lot of data-entry into multiple platforms prone to errors. Having retailers and manufacturers on the same global catalogue will address the issue of managing product data and having it most up to date.

At the end of the session, participants had a better understanding how GDSN works and also serve as an opportunity to explore new ways of managing data.
